The label scanner isn't working. What should I do?

If the label scanner in the Mealeez app isn't working, try these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Check Camera Permissions: Mealeez needs permission to access your device's camera to use the label scanner.

    • On Android: The location varies slightly by device, but it's usually found in Settings > Apps > Mealeez > Permissions. Make sure camera permission is granted.
  2. Ensure Proper Lighting: Poor lighting can affect the scanner's ability to recognize the label. Try scanning the label in a well-lit area. Avoid shadows or glare on the label.

  3. Improve Image Quality:

    • Hold the Device Steady: Hold your device steady and make sure the label is in focus. A blurry image can prevent the scanner from working correctly.
    • Clean the Camera Lens: A dirty camera lens can also affect image quality. Gently clean the lens with a soft cloth.
    • Move Closer or Further Away: Try adjusting the distance between your device and the label. The label should fill most of the camera's viewfinder, but it shouldn't be too close or too far away.
  4. Check for App Updates: Make sure you're using the latest version of the Mealeez app. Updates often include improvements to the label scanner.

  5. Restart Your Device: Sometimes a simple restart can resolve temporary software glitches.

  6. Test with a Different Label: Try scanning a different food label to see if the issue is with a specific label or with the scanner itself. Some labels might be damaged or poorly printed, which can affect scanning.

  7. Try a Different Browser (website only): If you're using the website, try a different browser to see if that resolves the issue.

  8. Contact Support: If none of these steps resolve the issue, please contact us at mail@mealeez.co.uk. Please provide as much detail as possible about the issue you're experiencing, including your device model, operating system version, and the steps you've already taken. It's also helpful to include a photo of the label you're trying to scan (if possible).
